Life

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York. He grew up in nearby Dobbs Ferry. His father, Edward Zuckerberg, is a dentist, and his mother, Karen, is a psychiatrist. Mark showed an early interest in computers and programming, creating software programs during his middle school years.


Education

Zuckerberg attended Ardsley High School before transferring to Phillips Exeter Academy, where he excelled in literature and fencing. During high school, he created a music player called Synapse Media Player. He later enrolled at Harvard University, majoring in psychology and computer science.


Founding Facebook

While at Harvard, Zuckerberg, along with friends Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, launched "The Facebook" on February 4, 2004. Initially intended as a social networking site for Harvard students, it quickly expanded to other Ivy League universities and beyond. By the end of 2004, Facebook had over one million users.


Growth and Success

Facebook continued to grow rapidly, attracting investments and expanding its user base worldwide. In 2012, Facebook held its initial public offering (IPO), making Zuckerberg one of the world's youngest billionaires. He has remained CEO of Facebook, now rebranded as Meta Platforms, Inc., and continues to lead the company in expanding its social media presence and developing new technologies.


Personal Life

Mark Zuckerberg married Priscilla Chan in 2012, and the couple has two daughters. They are known for their philanthropy, having pledged to donate 99% of their Facebook shares to various charitable causes through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.


Legacy

Zuckerberg's creation of Facebook has profoundly impacted how people connect and communicate globally. Despite facing numerous controversies and legal challenges regarding privacy, data security, and the platform's influence, he remains a central figure in the tech industry and social media landscape.
